Finnegan,
First, You forgot John Kerry's college performance (below Bush's, by the way). And for all we know, given that he never released his grades from any of the schools he attended, Obama's performance was less than Bush's, too.
Second, Palin "failed" is as silly as saying that Biden "won". Palin did what she was supposed to do - rally the conservative base, which she did very well. The Press blocked for Obama the entire campaign (chop blocks, in-the-back blocks, blindside blocks, coming-off-the-sideline blocks) gave Obama a big lead. But Palin's pick gave McCain two weeks of gains that had him ahead and pulling away in mid September. Then Lehman Bros and the financial meltdown (aided by the Press' spin that it was the Republicans to blame - what a crock) put the final stake in the Republican chances of victory this year.
It's funny how much you guys are afraid of Palin - uhh, newsflash! you won! You've got your guy in, and 4 years to advance your agenda - to still be obssessing on Palin is telling.
ps - and, too, maybe this election was an indication of a tipping point in the collective set of values, belief systems, and 'love of the America of the last 100 years.' In which case, we've just seen not an election, but the first signs of a persistent cough that hints at a slide toward tubes and potions and prognoses-dire.
